Leonardo G. Barrera, 91, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, May 5, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Barrera was born April 11, 1930 in Asherton, Texas to Enrique and Anastacia (Garza) Barrera. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army as a member of the 508th Airborne Infantry Regiment. On January 17, 1954, Leonardo married the love of his life, Jovita Rodriguez. Leonardo worked several years for Barrett Battery and retired as a courier for Fifth Third Bank. He enjoyed fishing and cheering on the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. Family vacations to Texas and being an integral part of the lives of his children and grandchildren brought him much joy. Mr. Barrera is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jovita; children, Edna Sharp, Larry (Cathy) Barrera, Hector Barrera, Thelma Barrera, and Mary (James) Barteck; grandchildren, Richard, Michelle, Brittany, Audrey, Thomas, Ashley, and Aaron; step-grandson, Ioannis; great-grandchildren, Braeden, Brody, Grace, Tyler, and Nash; step-great-grandson, Kostantinos; brother, David (Tangi) Barrera; brother-in-law, George Rodriguez; niece, Christina Rodriguez; along with many loving family members and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Alma Rose Barrera; granddaughter, Rachel Sharp; son-in-law, Clyde Sharp; 6 brothers and a sister. The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Sunday, May 9, 2021 from 1:00 pm – 5:00pm. Funeral services Monday, May 10, 2021 at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Interment Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
