Mrs. Rose Mary (Kelsey) Hayes, 94 of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 1, 2021 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio following a brief illness due to advanced age. Born in Toledo on August 12, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Kosta N. "Pop" and Donna (Stone) Kelsey. She was a long-time resident of East Toledo, attending Waite High School and graduating from Whitney Vocational High School in 1944. Rose Mary married William A. Hayes in 1944. She moved to Oregon in 1992. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband William A. Hayes, her daughter-in-law Sherrie (Jansen) Hayes and her granddaughter Cyndee Hayes Ivy. Rose Mary was an astute businesswoman as owner of the former Kelsey's Bar on Main Street in East Toledo. Following the closing of Kelsey's in 1977 she worked at First Federal Bank and VFW Post 2510 for many years finally retiring at age 89. She seemed to know everyone in East Toledo and was often referred to as "the mayor of East Toledo". Proud of her Bulgarian heritage, she attended Bulgarian dances for many years. She loved playing cards and being with her family and friends who often referred to her as Rosie. Rosie could often be found playing Euchre anywhere she could find partners including at the East Toledo and Oregon senior centers. A loving mother and grandmother, Rose Mary liked to surround herself with family who were always there to enjoy her and play Euchre through her long life. She enjoyed being along the shores of Lake Erie with her son Donald and his family. Rose Mary also enjoyed many trips to visit her son William and family in Massachusetts. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and many friends. Surviving Rose Mary are her two sons William (Carol) Hayes and Donald Hayes, her two granddaughters Wendy (Jack) Esteves and Donna (Michael) Fritz, her two grandsons Daniel (Alisha) Hayes and Nathan (Brittany) Hayes and ten great grandchildren, Kelcie, Andrew, Jake, Aydia, Danielle, Sophia, Sherrie, Jackie, Carter & Hudson and two great great grandchildren Annabelle and Jameson. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic a small graveside ceremony for family will be held at Willow Cemetery in Oregon. Friends will be welcomed at a memorial service in the summer. Arrangements are being handled by Eggleston, Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home in Oregon.
