Alex J. Vaido Jr., 90, of Curtice, Ohio passed away Friday, January 15, 2016 at Genoa Care Center. Alex was born in Hollister, Ohio on May 22, 1925 to Alex and Theresa (Nagy) Vaido Sr. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a member of the American Legion Dunberger Post. Alex was also a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church Millbury and was also a Lay Minister. He had worked for Chevy Hydromantic as a skilled pipe fitter. Alex enjoyed working with his hands, working on cars, woodworking, repairing televisions, refrigerators, among many other things. He and his wife Iris raised their family in east Toledo, then moving to Curtice, where they had built their home.
Alex is survived by his daughter, Lynda (Michael) Stiger; son-in-law, Donald Auler; his grandchildren who called him "Bampa", Jim Stiger, Michael (Marie) Stiger II, Daniel J. Auler and David J. Auler; great grandchildren, Jacob and Samuel. Also suriving are many nieces and nephews who affectionally called him "Uncle Shine". Alex was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iris; daughter, Dr. Anna M. Vaido-Auler; brothers Sonny, John and Steve Vaido; sisters, Rose Roof, Ann Vaido, Irene Gyurko, Theresa King and Eleanor Lanning.
Visitation will be held at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road, Millbury, Ohio on Wednesday from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Allen Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul's Methodist Church.
