Obituary

Alfredo Loreto, 77, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Alfredo was born in Tunisia, Africa on August 30, 1936 to Jules and Caremella (Carta) Loreto. In August, 1962, Alfredo moved to the United States with his sister Maria. Having started his successful amateur boxing career as a champion in Tunisia, Alfred went to box in the Golden Gloves at the Toledo Sports Arena, before retiring with a winning record. In 1974, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Libby) Shephard and were together for over 40 years. Together they raised Shannon and Brian, and then married in 1991. One of his proudest moments was being sworn in as an American Citizen in 1996. Alfredo is the proud "Papa" of Alfred and Jacob Shephard, whom he loved very much and enjoyed spending time with. Alfredo was a devoted family man who always made sure his family was taken care of. He was a buffer and polisher for over 30 years, eventually retiring from Gerity Products in 2000. Before his health declined, Al loved to work in his garage and could fix just about anything. He took great pride in his ability to refurbish old items and make them new again. Surviving is his loving wife, Libby Loreto: Children Shannon Shephard and Brian (Michelle) Shephard; grandchildren, Alfred and Jacob Shephard, sister Yolande Fenech of France, nephews George Prephan Jr. and Gerald Prephan, special nieces Penny (Don) Lewis and Kathy (Frank) Carmen, as well as several nieces and nephews across many countries. Alfredo was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gino and Joseph, and sister Vincenza and Maria. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavleyy Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 South Coy Road, Oregon, Ohio on Saturday May 24 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Sunday May 25 at 11:00 a.m. Internment will follow at the Clay Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Hospice who provided care in Als final days.
