Alice M. Nagy, age 82, of Oregon, Ohio passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013 at ProMedica EBEID Hospice Residence in Sylvania, Ohio after battling much illness. She was a tough fighter who never complained in spite of her pains and illness. Born to Arthur and Estella Helle on November 27, 1930 in Williston, Ohio, Alice is survived by sons Kenneth Nagy and Ronald (Mary) Nagy; daughters, Judith Nagy and Karen (Terrance) Steigmeier; and grandchildren, Cord and Oliver Steigmeier. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest W. Nagy; parents, Arthur and Estella Helle; brothers, Gaylord and Donald Helle; and sisters, Marian Helle, Dolores Fouke, and Eileen Shinkle. After high school, Alice worked at Erie Proving Ground, a United States Army facility in Ottawa County, until she married Ernest in 1960. She was introduced to the love of her life, Ernest, by her brother-in-law Richard Fouke who worked with Ernest at DeVilbiss.
Alice enjoyed time with her family. She especially enjoyed the annual family summer vacations to places like Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the Badlands in South Dakota, the Amish Pennsylvania areas, Wisconsin Dells, and Florida to visit her sister Eileen Shinkle and her family. There were also fun times at Sea World in Aurora, Ohio. Alice loved her times with siblings and extended family, rarely missing a family event and staying until the end. She took time to make scrapbooks of family pictures and events for her children and made a cookbook of her recipes. There were wonderful family dinners every night. Alice had many fond memories of Christmas with great gift exchanges with her family.
Alice had a wonderful, sarcastic sense of humor. She wanted to make people smile and strived to please everyone. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with interment following in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff of Sylvania Care and Rehabilitation, Flower Hospital, and at ProMedica EBEID Hospice Residence for their care of Alice.
