Obituary

Alice Luella Schafer, born in Lucas County, Ohio on June 11, 1916, died on February 23, 2005, in Copley, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Frazier of Wood County; her sisters, Florence (Harold) Kurfis, Viola (Herbert) Delye, and her brothers, John (Edith) Frazier and Floyd (Violet) Frazier. Left to mourn her passing are her husband of seventy years, William H.; her son, Harold (Donna) Schafer of Oxford, NC; Joyce Schafer of Medina, mother of her grandchildren, Michelle (Ronald) Carr, Julie Schafer, Michael (Holly) Schafer and Thomas (Andrea) Schafer, her step-grandchildren, Natalie Krizo and Brent Krizo; great-grandchildren, Heather (Michael) Marino, Melissa Carr, Timothy (Jessica) Carr, Morgan Schafer, Will Schafer, Katie Schafer, T.J. Schafer, Michael Schafer, Anna Lynn Schafer, her step-great-grandchildren, Oni and Evan Krizo; her great-great-grandchildren, Ariana Carr and Carson Marino, many nieces and nephews, especially Robert (Jayne) Kurfis and Charles (Mary Jane) Swigart, and a whole host of loving and life-long friends. Many thanks to friends in need, Carol Roberts, Visiting Nurses and Hospice on Ridgewood. Alice was employed twenty years in the office of The Family Medical Center of East Toledo, retiring in 1978. She was a life-long member of the Unity (Oakdale) United Methodist Church of Toledo. Because of her excellent office skills, she was called upon to be recording secretary of her classes and all ad hoc sessions of the G.A.R. at the state level. Alice was also a member of Eastern Star of Toledo, Ohio. Alice kept in touch with her many, many friends by letters and the telephone after moving to Copley in 2000 to be closer to her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and baker and was always ready to bring her goodies to any event. She will be sorely missed. Visitation at Billows Funeral Home, Miller Rd, Fairlawn, Ohio on Thursday evening, February 24, 2005. Visitation at Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, (Coy at Starr Ave.) on Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Order of Eastern Star Lotus Chapter Service at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with interment following in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
