Allen Reid Mortemore, age 87, of Oregon and formerly of Perrysburg, died Monday, March 14, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was the son of Arthur and Cleo (Reid) Mortemore, the oldest of 3 children. Al attended Whitmer High School where, at graduation in 1952, he was honored to receive the Dale Crow Memorial Award for outstanding performance in sports and good sportsmanship. Six months after graduating, Al joined the Army with the First Cavalry Headquarters Company. He was stationed in Sapporo, Japan where he served 2 years.
Returning home, Al spent 4 years in all areas of construction before beginning his own business, A. R. Mortemore Masonry Contractors. During his working years, he served as president of the Masonry Contractors Association as well as president of the Masonry Institute of Northwest Ohio. Al enjoyed the years spent with Masonic Lodge 659. He was also a member of Zenobia Shrine where he served as marshal of Zenobia parades in numerous locations. Al loved to work! Even before his retirement in 1999, Al was actively involved in helping to keep churches in good repair. He enjoyed travels to Henderson Settlement in rural Kentucky where, with his wife, Mary and teams from their church, he took on building repairs – projects that helped families in that United Methodist community.
Preceded in death by his parents, Al is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Mary; dear daughters, Jill (Larry) Keiffer and Kelly (Jai) Marshall. He is also loved and appreciated by Mary's children: Jeff (Jill) Bennett, Mary Beth (Greg) DeSalvo, Jody (Paul) Schilling, Laura (David) Kleinschmidt, Rich (Jodi) Bennett and foster son, Tony (Kennis) Tang. Also surviving are his sister, Linda Bartholow and brother, Bob (Diane) Mortemore. Grandchildren total 22 with 8 great-grandchildren!
Visitation will be held Friday at Eggleston, Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Rd, Millbury, Ohio from 2pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at Christ United Methodist Church, 5757 Starr Ave. Ext. Oregon, OH, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
