Obituary

Allen L. Sweet, 71, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Allen was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 12, 1943 to Sylvester and Margaret (Stiving) Sweet. He was a 1963 graduate of Waite High School. On July 24, 1965, he married the love of his life, Stephanie Thomas. For 34 years, Allen worked as a pipefitter with Sun Oil Refinery, retiring in 2000. Allen enjoyed working on cars and bow hunting for deer with his family in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was a member of the New Sportsmas Club, where he served as past president. His true passion was spending time with his family; especially his children and grandchildren. Allen is survived by his wife of 49 years, Stephanie; sons, Jason (Becky) Sweet and Brian (Amy) Sweet; grandchildren, Tony, Christopher, Amber, Shawn, and Shane; sister, Phyllis (Lewis) Rist; brother; Ervin (Marilyn) Sweet; sisters-in-law, Millie Sweet, Mary (Duane) Hubaker, and Andrea (Jim) Myers; brother-in-law, Sam (Carol) Thomas; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members, and friends. Allen was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Sweet; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sam and Mary Thomas. Private graveside services were held in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Toledo Humane Society 1920 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee, Ohio 43537. Allen'™s family wishes to thank the nurses, aides and staff of Promedica Bay Park Hospital Emergency Room, ICU, and Respiratory Therapy, for the excellent care given to Allen. A special thank you is also extended to Allen'™s caring physicians; Dr. Rebecca Marshall, Dr. Karl Fernandez, and Dr. Dean Bernardo for the loving care given to Allen during his illness.
