Alma Amelia (Betcher) Klatt, 98, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Sunday morning, January 3, 2021.
She was born September 6, 1922 in Fort Edward, New York to Emil and Amelia (Leis) Betcher.
The family moved to Oakdale and Pool Street in Toledo during the late 1920s. She went on to graduate from Waite High School in 1940. On June 1, 1946, she married Frederick Klatt at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio. They raised two children, Kay and Barry, at their home in Point Place. Being close with their extended family around Toledo, it became a summer tradition to gather for a week vacation at the lake in Michigan.
Throughout their 56 years of marriage, Alma and Fred enjoyed spending their time polka dancing, working the German American Festival, and serving as the #1 fans at their grandchildren's sporting events and school performances. They were also members of the G.B.U., one of the seven German Societies at Oak Shade Grove. A devote housewife, Alma was never short on free time. She had a passion for playing cards with her close friends in the "Rinky Dinks" club and was always ready for a game of 'Go Fish' when her grandchildren came to visit. If she wasn't out walking the neighborhood or making her famous pink applesauce, Alma could be found in the casinos of Detroit with her niece Carolyn and late sister, Helen. A daily shot of whiskey was her secret to a long life, sometimes two if her son and grandson came over tending the lawn. Alma was known for her curious spirit, always wanting to know what was going on. She was a frequent early hour visitor with the night staff at the Landings of Oregon, her residence the past two years. She even received "Night Owl" embellished pjs from a secret Santa one year.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; brothers ,Walter and Richard Betcher; and sisters, Martha Betcher, Dorothy Leck, Helen Steinke, and Ruth Betcher. She is survived by her children, Kay (Dave) Watrol and Barry (Pamela) Klatt; grandchildren, Melanie (Jason) Schultz, Jason Klatt, and Heather Klatt; as well as several nieces and nephews and her great-grand puppy, Brutus.
