Alyssa Marie Gackstetter, 23, of Curtice, Ohio went to be with her Lord on Chrismas Eve, 2003. Alyssa was born in Toledo on November 12, 1980 to Bruce and Roxanne (Swartz) Gackstetter and was a graduate of Genoa High School.. In her earlier years, Alyssa was an avid athlete, playing both softball and basketball. She also was involved in cheerleading, the yearbook staff, sports photographer, the Key Club, Spanish Club and Art Club. During her senior years she was voted by her class as the Friendliest Girl. After high school she tried her hand with various jobs and found her calling as a STNA, working at Genoa Care Center. She was currently employed at the Genoa Care Center where the staff and residents enjoyed having her as part of their extended family. In her free time she would enjoy sketching, painting still life pictures or writing poetry. Her favorite to sketch was Pooh as shown by her hundreds of posters.
She is survived by her special friend, David, whom countless hours of conversation were spent; her parents, Bruce and Roxanne Gackstetter, brothers, Chase, Brian of Dearborn MI and Jorge of Louisville NC; grandparents, George and Lucille Gackstetter, Raymond and Mary Lou Schmiel, Laurel and Carol Swartz; aunt, Rose (Jerry) Feudi; uncles, Rick (Tina) Swartz, Terry (Sherri) Swartz, Tim (Marge) Swartz. She was preceded in death by her cousin, Nicholas Feudi.
Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, OH on Monday, December 29, 2003 from 2 to 9 pm where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:15 am and proceed to Rosary Cathedral for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Williston Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Alyssa's name may consider the Rosary Cathedral General Fund. The family would like to thank the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department, Clay Township Fire Department, the staff of Genoa Care Center, Rosary Cathedral, and all the countless friends and relatives for their support.
