Andrew "Andy" E. Horvath, 89, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on February 18, 2018 at Orchard Villa. Andy was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 27, 1928 to Andrew and Julia (Mezi) Horvath. He served 4 years in the Navy during World War II, was with the Navy Reserves, "Seabees" for 18 years and was a Dunberger Post Color Guard Member for over 25 years. Over Andy's 35 years in the American Legion he served as 1st Vice Commander for 5 years and Commander for 3. He worked for Toledo Edison as an electrician for 45 years, retiring in 1990. Andy was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church where he served as Treasurer for the St. Ignatius Holy Name Society, as well as serving on the Cemetery Committee. He was also Treasurer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society and a member of Local #245 Retirees Club. One of the many proud moments in Andy's life was receiving his High School Diploma in 2002 after missing graduation due to enlisting in the United States Navy at the age of 17.
Andy is survived by his daughter, Lynne McDougle; sons, Eric (Jackie), Carl (Cheryl), and Kurt (Katy) Horvath; 10 grandchildren, Aaron, Megan, Sam, Danielle, Gabrielle Horvath, Lauren, Erin, Kaitlyn, Kristen McDougle, and Joshua Sype; great grandchildren, Isaac, Isabelle, Olivia, Ezra; and sister, Connie Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Margaret; twin sons, Andrew and Anthony; and his parents.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 4-8 pm and on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 2-8 pm with Legion Services at 6:00 pm. The family will greet friends, on Friday, February 23, 2018 at St. Ignatius Church, 212 N. Stadium Rd. Oregon, Ohio 43616 from 10:00 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Andy's name are asked to consider Dunberger Post Color Guard, St. Ignatius Church and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
