Obituary

Andy passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 19, 2016 at the age of 80 at his home in the heart of his beloved Birmingham neighborhood with his family at his side. Andy was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 15, 1935 to Andrew and Elizabeth (Liszak) Gocsik. He was a 1953 graduate of Central Catholic High School and enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Bamberg, Germany as a part of the 3rd Infantry Division. Andy worked 35 years for Libbey Owens Ford/Pilkington as a systems analyst and later as a consultant for CJTEC Northwest Regional Information System. Andy was an active member of the former Holy Rosary Church on the east side of Toledo. He served in many capacities including: President of the School Board and Parish Council, Festival Chairman, and Lector. Andy also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Mass, to the homebound, and to patients at Promedica Bay Park Hospital. After the closing of Holy Rosary Church, Andy and JoAn became active members of Epiphany of the Lord Parish – St. Stephens Church. Andy had a deep faith and shared his beliefs with his family and friends, and demonstrated it through his actions. He and JoAn enjoyed being with their friends playing Bridge, attending sporting events, concerts, and their Sunday morning breakfasts. A lifelong sports fan, Andy was a diehard fan of both the Cleveland Browns and Indians. Fortunately, he found his athletic satisfaction and entertainment through the activities of his children and grandchildren. Andy is survived by his best friend, wife of 55 years, and his most beautiful and caring nurse, JoAn (Rajner); daughters, Ann Gallaher, Amy (David) Barton; sons, Andrew (Lori Seder), Joseph (Tiffany) and Michael (Rebecca Ware); grandchildren, James, Kelsey, Patrick, Daniel, Thomas, Madison, Samantha, Sarah and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his parents. Andy donated his body to the University of Toledo College Of Medicine to further medical education.
