Andrew J. Gyurko, 88 of east Toledo, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg surrounded by his family. Andy was born on March 10, 1919 in Glouster, Ohio to John and Verona (Molnar) Gyurko. He was a WWII Army Staff Sergeant Veteran. Andy retired from A.P. Parts in 1983 after 38 years of service. Andy was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Irene (Vaido) on April 1, 1997. He was a member of Calvin United Church of Christ and a 50 year member of the church's choir. Andy was also a member of the American Legion Post #434.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law Verona (John) Contos, Nancy (Bradley) Sheets,; grandchildren, John (Laura) Contos, Wendy (Quinn) McDougle, Kyle and Ryan Sheets; great grandchildren Mariah and Samantha McDougle, John Contos Jr.. In addition to his wife, Andy was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Wilma, Mary, Margaret, Julia; brothers, John, Nick, Steve, Joseph.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-9 p.m. at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel 440 S. Coy Road. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Calvin United Church of Christ, 1946 Bakewell Street where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Andy's name are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Calvin United Church of Christ. Andy's family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Hospice for the love and care provided to him during his illness.
