Anita (Garcia) Covarrubias, 88, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 in the ER at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center surrounded by many of her loved ones. Anita was born Oct. 25, 1924 to Dasidero and Teresa (Camarillo) Garcia in Eagle Pass, TX. She married Higinio Covarrubias May 25, 1947, he preceded her death Aug. 17, 2009.
Anita worked in the laundry at St. Vincent'™s Hospital retiring after 43 years. She also worked with her husband in their photography business that served primarily the Mexican American community. Along with her husband they recorded milestone events from birth to death for hundreds of families for nearly a half a century. She enjoyed learning new wedding photography techniques and ways of posing infants and children. Anita was very outgoing and was the 'œpeople person' of the business. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church for more than 60 years. Above all she loved gatherings where her large family enjoyed sharing good food and memories.
She is survived by her children Mary (Gumersindo) Mata, John (Desi) of Portland, OR., Delores (Jose) Mata, Higinio (Linda) of Lees Summit, Mo., Teresa (Amir) Abrashami of Los Angeles, CA., Patricio (Sandy), Arturo (Alesia) and daughters-in-law Rose and Lillian Covarrubias. She is also survived by siblings Carlos Fragoso, Louis Fragoso, Mary Sepeda, Teresa Francher, Sue Mincheff, and Helen Contreras. She is also survived by 45 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents Anita was preceded in death by her sons Miguel and Phillip, granddaughter Isabella Covarrubias and great-granddaughter Delia Searcy, siblings Robert Fragosa, Raymond Garcia, Josefa 'œPepa' Sifuentes, and Juanita Garcia.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 2:00 pm -9:00 pm with a Rosary service at 7 pm at Eggleston Meinert &Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 Coy Rd. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 11:00 am at Good Shepherd Church, 550 Clark Street, Toledo, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Friday, September 27, 2013 at 1:000 pm.
