Barbara (Thielen) Forney passed away on February 13, 2003 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, surrounded by her family. Barb married Dale Thielen in September 1955. She was a member of Toledo's Sacred Heart Parish for over 40 years and was a member of its Altar Rosary Society. She was involved in the school's scouting program for many years, as well as having played a key part in the parish rummage sales. Barb was very active in the Mother's Club at St. Francis de Sales High School and played an instrumental part in fundraising at Cardinal Stritch High School, through their annual rummage sales. After raising three children, Barb went back to nursing school, receiving her degree in 1981. Barb retired from critical care nursing in 1997; however, she never gave up caring for people. Following the death of her husband Dale in 1997, Barbara was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Gary, who she married on November 14, 2002. Also surviving are her son, John (Tina); daughters, Anita (Marvin) Filas and Veronica Thielen (Hope Clark); grandchildren, Casey Filas and Allie Hales; sisters, Elizabeth (Jerry) Risacher, Marty (Boots) Metzger; brother, Mike (Jane) McDevitt; sister-in-law, Judy McDevitt and so many wonderful nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, John and Veronica McDevitt; her brother Jack; sisters, Dorothy, Joan and Helen (Sister Michael Ann) McDevitt. Barb's life will be celebrated on Monday, February 17 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Church, 1880 Genessee St., Toledo, Ohio 43605. At Barb's request, her body was donated to the Medical College of Ohio. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 River Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551. All of the nurses and doctors were so kind to Barb and her family. The family would also like to remind everyone of the importance of spending time with friends and family.
