Barbara J, Masserant, 86, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born in Carleton, Michigan on November 22, 1928 to Derwood and Leone (Mieden) Reiser. She was a 1946 graduate of Carleton High School and a 1949 graduate of St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. For 36 years, Barbara worked as a registered nurse at St. Charles Hospital, where she was instrumental in teaching prenatal classes to expecting mothers and also worked for Dr. R. J. Swindaman. Since retirement in 1992, Barbara has enjoyed her love of quilting, traveling, volunteering at Little Sisters of the Poor, and spending time with her family. She was a longtime member of the Maumee Bay Country Quilting Guild, where she served as heartbeat chairperson for many years.
Barbara is survived by her children, Laura ( Ronald) Root and Terry ( Diane) Masserant; grandchildren, Joe (Sharon) Root, Tara Roberts, Wendy ( Scott) Maas, Justin Massarant and Greyson Massarant; great-grandchildren, Mallory Roberts, Megan Root, Charlesea Root, Josephine Nicols, Samantha Root, Robert Root, and Jacob Maas; siblings, John (Priscella) Reiser, Jerry (Shirley) Resier, David (Phyllis) Reiser and Marian Durrant; sister-in-law, Patricia Greer; along with many loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and Dennis Reiser; and brother-in-law, John Durrant.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm, where a rosary service will be held at 4:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 10:30 am at Epiphany of the Lord Parish- St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 729 White Street, Toledo, where the family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 am. Private interment will take place at Michigan Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Little Sisters of the Poor or Heartland Hospice.
