Benito Perales Sr., 79, of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, in his home on August 29, 2008. Benito was one of seven children born to Angelita and Francisco Perales Sr. on April 3, 1929, in Primera, Texas. Benito worked for the LOF Glass Company for 42 years, before retiring in 1991. He was a golden gloves boxer from 1948 - 1951. He had a total of 105 boxing matches. In 1952, he wed Lucia Martinez. They were married for 56 happy years and had 4 children. Benito was an active member in the community. He was the founder and president of the Mexican American Patriotic Association. He owned Perales Trucking, and helped build I-75. He owned and operated Perales Restaurant on Main St. He enjoyed music and dancing. He formed the Mexican bands, Los Alegres del Norte, La Orchestra Perales and Conjunto Perales. He also managed Los Charros del Norte, a Mexican American dance group and Los Imperials Mariachis. Benito was also a local dance and concert promoter. Benito was a loving and supporting husband, father and grandfather. He was always there with a helping hand and a listening ear. He was loved and will be missed by many. Benito is survived by his wife, Lucia; sons, Bennie Jr. (Blanca) Francisco; daughters, Margaret (Robert) Layne, and Lucy "LuLu" Perales; brothers, Benjamin (Evangeline), and Alberto; sister, Erlinda Alvarado; sister-in-law, Virginia Perales; brother-in-law, Jose Montalvo Sr.; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alfredo, and Francisco, and sister, Theresa Montalvo. Friends and family may visit Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Monday, September 1, 2008 from 5-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 - 9 p.m. where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 a.m. and proceed to St. Peter and Paul's Church for 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Benito's name will be greatly appreciated by the family.
