Bernard R. Sanchez, 78, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on October 13, 2013. Bernard was born on September 18, 1935, to William and Ione (Serpas) Sanchez. He was a veteran of the US Army and spent over 30 years, employed by the University of Toledo, as a professor and the Chair of the Music Department. Aside from his professional life, he held dual Masters Degrees in Music and Conducting. Bernard was also a member of Monroe Street United Methodist Church.
He spent many years as Principal Trumpet Toledo Symphony Orchestra and the Toledo Opera Orchestra. He played in a professional Brass Quintet named the Glass City Brass. Bernard was a trumpet soloist with the Toledo Symphony and played trumpet a Music Under the Stars. Sam Szor introduced Bernard and his loving wife Rita and was the best man at their wedding.
Bernard conducted the very popular Palm Sunday concerts at the Monroe Street United Methodist Church.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Rita (Cullinan) Sanchez; daughters, Robin (Louis) Vasaturo and Dawn (Douglas) Duncan; grandchildren, Anthony and Lauren Vasaturo and Michaela and Griffith Duncan; and sister Emelda Leathem. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, William, Roderick, Calvin and Joseph.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at Monroe Street United Methodist Church in Toledo. Inurnment will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Monroe Street United Methodist Church. Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
