Bert J. Szombati, 86, of Rossford passed away Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Eleanor Jennings Home.Bert was born in Toledo on February 14, 1922 to John and Mary (Farkas) Szombati. He was a WW11 Army Veteran serving overseas in the Philippines and Japan. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. Bert had retired from Libbey Owens Ford East Broadway Plant in 1984 after over 30 years of service. He won many dance contests at Tony Packos, dancing the jitter bug. Bert was always proud of the 299 ring he received, when bowling a perfect game was not common. In 1985 Bert participated in the Senior Olympics pitching horseshoes. After retiring he enjoyed spending his winters in Naples, Florida. He was a friend to all and will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, positive attitude, and a smile that would light up the room.
Bert will be greatly missed by his daughters, Barbara Berry, Jill (Scott) Gauthier; grandchildren, Chris (Ted) Saneholtz, Cindy Danko, Mark and Matt Berry, Angela (Sam) Myers, Jordan, Cassidy, Hannah, Logan Gauthier; sister, Mary (Fritz) Szollosi; and his beloved cat, Sophie. Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; sons, Andrew and Allen; brothers, Andrew, John; sisters, Irene, Anna Mae.
Visitation will be held at Kinsey Funeral Home, 2001 Consual Street on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. where the Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 9:45 am on Wednesday and proceed to St. Stephen Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Berts family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to all the staff at Eleanor Jennings Home for all the love and care they provided to him during his stay.
