Bertha Malohn passed away on March 30, 2008, at age 88. She was born on March 11, 1920, to Lawrence and Katalin (Bolla) Zvara. Birdie grew up in the Birmingham area of Toledo and attended St. Stephen's Church and school. She worked for over 25 years in the candy department of Tiedtke's and belonged to the Tiedtke's Old Timers Club. She loved to garden, bake cookies, play bingo, and play cards with her many friends. Birdie enjoyed vacations in Canada with her favorite fishing partner, her husband, Ernie. Birdie is survived by her daughter, Barbara Mattoni; four grandchildren, and four step grand-children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest; parents; brother, James Meyers; sisters, Margaret Hornyak, Mary Eberflus; and step daughter, Joann Schultz. Visitation will be held at the Kinsey Funeral Home, 2001 Consaul St., Toledo, Ohio, on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 4 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. with interment at Calvary Cemetery.
