Betty J. Hammersmith, 82, of Curtice, Ohio passed away Friday November 2, 2012 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in Toledo, Ohio to Roy and Hilda Frida (Lentz) Zunk on August 7, 1930. Betty graduated from Clay High School in 1948. She married the love of her life Robert Hammersmith on November 25, 1950. Betty was a clerk at JC Penny for 30 years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and a longtime active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed helping the ladies in the kitchen. Betty loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving is her loving husband of 62 years; children, Vicki (Dennis) Lahey, Dennis (Cheri) Hammersmith, Brian (Jane) Hammersmith; sisters, Jeanette Shephard, Darlene (Gary) Carstensen; grandchildren, Rachelle (Erik) Kistner, Robert (Cassandra)Hammersmith, Breann Lahey, and Nathan Hammersmith; 2 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Debbie.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church 1930 Bradner Road, Northwood on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Calvary Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
