Betty Jane South, née Rothenbuhler, 95, of Seminole, FL, previously of Oregon, OH, went to join her loving husband William "Oran" South Sr., in eternal life, April 4, 2022, after a brief illness while at the HarbourWood Care Center, Clearwater, FL.
She was born in Chicago, February 8, 1927, to the late Charles and Helen (Richards) Rothenbuhler. Her family relocated shortly thereafter to Ohio where she was raised in the former Ironville neighborhood of East Toledo. It was there she met the love of her life, Oran.
Betty graduated from Waite High School in 1945 while working for Saves Electric Company. A year later she married Oran in an elegant ceremony provided to them during the annual Trianon Ballroom Pearl Harbor Day Ball. Tony Pastor's Orchestra played for the wedding service as well as afterwards for dancing. As a working mother of three boys, she was employed at White Tower and Kewpee's, later beginning a 15 year career with Oregon City Schools retiring in 1989. Always adventurous, she traveled extensively with her husband and family throughout the United States and abroad. On one memorable trip to Mexico she caught her prized sailfish. She enjoyed many pastimes: playing pinochle, dancing, bird-watching and fishing, boating and camping, gardening and taking care of her flowers, to name but a few. Most of all she loved spending time with her beloved family. She will be dearly missed.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband William Oran South, Sr., grandson Stephen South, brother-in-law Alan and sister Marjorie Ranes, and sister-in-law Ruth Rothenbuhler. She leaves 3 sons: William (Debra) South, Jr. of Seminole, FL, Robert (Peggy) South of New Port Richey, FL, Kenneth (Mary) South of Williston, OH; 3 grandchildren: Cynthia (Robert) Acton of Seminole, FL, Tyler (Kimberly) South of Wentzville, MO, and Samuel South (Roman Black) of Seminole, FL; 2 brothers: Donald (Fran) Rothenbuhler of Maumee, OH, and Macklin (Ann) Rothenbuhler of Mint Hill, NC; 5 great-grandsons, 7 great-great grandchildren, plus many dear nieces and nephews.
Following a viewing in Florida, the family will receive guests, Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. Oregon from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, 4210 Central Ave, Toledo, OH 43606.
