Obituary

Billy G. Smith, 73, of Toledo passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Avalon Otterbein Rehab House, Perrysburg. Billy was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee on March 1, 1936, to Lewis and Grace (Hendrix) Smith. He served in the National Guard for 9 years. Billy had owned and operated Bill Smith's Auto Service from 1957 until 1997. He operated his service stations in the Toledo area, affiliated with Gulf Oil from 1957 to 1972, Shell Oil from 1972 to 1982 and Marathon Oil from 1982 until he opened Alexis Road Automotive in 1997 and subsequently retired that same year. Billy was a devoted member of Echo Meadows Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for over 30 years. He served on the board of Midwestern Children's Home, Cincinnati, Ohio. Billy was always known for being very generous as he worked alongside his wife, LaVerne. Together they touched many lives and brought joy to anyone that came into contact with them. Surviving are his loving children, Pamela A. Smith, Debora A. (Ray) Jeffers, Glenn E. (Lisa) Smith, Glenda A. Moyer; grandchildren, Billy and Alli Jeffers, April (Micah) McGough, Cory (Sarah), Tyler, and Kristin Smith; great-grand-daughter, Kinley Smith; brother, Jessie Smith. Billy was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne; parents and his sister, Marcia Smith. Visitation will be held at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Echo Meadows Church of Christ, 2905 Starr Avenue, Oregon, Ohio where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy in Billy's memory are asked to consider Echo Meadows Church of Christ Building Fund or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
