IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brenda Marie
Mcneil
August 15, 1954 – November 6, 2023
Brenda Marie (Fulwider) McNeil, 69, of King's Pointe Senior Apartments in Sylvania, Ohio, passed away on November 6, 2023. Brenda was the first of her six siblings to be born in Toledo, Ohio, with her three older siblings being born in West Virginia, where both her parents were from.
A graduate of Morrison R. Waite High School, Brenda was a proud east-sider, even after relocating to west Toledo and eventually Sylvania, Ohio, after raising her four children as a single mother. After graduating from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Special Education, Brenda went on to teach at Robinson Junior High School for her entire thirty-year teaching career. Some of her fondest memories were of some of her students at Robinson and of the Robinson staff who became close friends.
Brenda had been a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority since 1973 where she developed some of her closest friendships. She enjoyed bowling in various leagues over the years, with some of her closest friends, as well with her late sister Barb, who she was very close with. Brenda also enjoyed volunteering at the voting polls in Lucas County from 2006 through 2016. Her family believed her love for hippos to be unmatched until Brenda found a hippo group, which held conventions for hippo lovers, that Brenda loved to attend. She managed to collect over 500 hippo items varying from figurines and stuffed animals to clothing, jewelry, and bags. She loved visiting her family in West Virginia, where she vacationed to most often, for bi-annual family reunions with beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was also an avid reader who spent much of her spare time with her nose in a book. A lover of nearly all genres of music, Brenda collected a variety of music in many forms, from 8 tracks to vinyl records and CDs.
Brenda is survived by her children, Liz (Bruce) Zolla, Jan Corthell, Jared Belcher Sr., and Rebecca Belcher; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Fulwider; and sister-in-law, Nancy Fulwider. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Bonnie, Barbara, Charles and Becky; and grandson, Christian.
Brenda's family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude for every staff person in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at St. Vincent Hospital, who cared for Brenda. Everyone, from the janitorial staff, to the phlebotomists, physical therapists, nurses, and doctors, exuded excellence in their care for her.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 2:00 – 6:30 p.m. with a service following at 7:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S.
