Carl L. Appelhans
Carl Appelhans 75, of Graytown,Ohio passed away Thursday March 25, 2004 in Bay Park
Community Hospital. Carl was born in Sterling, Colorado on February 19, 1929 to Philip
and Eugenia Appelhans.
Carl was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Elliston, Ohio, where he had
been member of the church council He was currently a member of the church dartball
team and had served as the church custodian.
Carl had worked 33 years at Libby Owens Ford, retiring in 1983. He was a member of
Local 9. After his retirement , Carl was the caretaker of the Elliston Cemetery for many
years. Carl had been a little league coach for Graytown. He was an Oak Harbor Rockets
Fan. Carl's hobbies included golf, bowling,dartball, model trains, fishing, boating and
sports. He truly enjoyed his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Zibbel whom he married on September 9, 1950 at
Trinity UCC in Elliston. Also surviving are his children, Danny (Kathy) Appelhans, Dawn
(Jan) Grieger, grandchildren, Nic Appelhans, Nancy Appelhans, Joshua (Kellie) Grieger,
JaNay Grieger, brother, John Appelhans; sisters, Mary Liebherr and Catherine Scobie;
half-sisters, Pauline Wetzel and Shirley Davenport.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brothers,Joe, Andrew and Jacob and sister Barb
Szajkowski; half brothers, Pete and Martin Appelhans.
Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home,Woodville
Road Chapel,1111 Woodville Road in Millbury on Sunday, March 28 from 12 Noon until
9 PM. Funeral services will be conduted by Pastor Lowell Peters at 11:00 AM on
Monday, March 29, 2004 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Elliston, Ohio, where the
family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Elliston
Cemetery.
Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Carl's memory are asked to consider
the Trinity United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
