Obituary

Carl A. Shanteau, 92, of Toledo, formerly of Oregon, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on May 23, 1918 to C. Earl and Hilda (Fulton) Shanteau. A graduate of the former Point Place High School, Carl served in the US Coast Guard during World War II. In 1947, Carl married Ruth Draves who preceded him in death in 1989. He later married Joan Imhoff and she preceded him in death in 2007 after 17 years of marriage. Carl was employed as an electrician at the Toledo Lakefront Docks for 32 years, retiring in1978. Carl was a member of Local # 8 Electricians Union, Point Place Heritage Society, Collingwood Lodge #457, and Christ United Methodist Church. Volunteering for a number of years at Mercy, St. Charles, and St. Vincent Hospital, Carl was well known for his story telling and sense of humor. Light on his feet, dancing was an enjoyable pastime for many years. Surviving are his sons, Leslie (Kathleen), David (Madeleine), and Philip; grandchildren, Jennifer (Nathan) Bhatt, Kristin Kimberly, Scott (Trisha) Shanteau; great-granddaughter, Jamie Kimberly; sister, Leah Heimbeck. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Friday, February 4th from 4:00-8:00 pm where Collingwood Lodge services will be held at 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, February 5th at 9:30 am with interment following in Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Christ United Methodist Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
