Carol T. Whitzel, 80, of Walbridge, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio with her family by her side. Carol was born in Oregon, Ohio on September 27, 1943 to Roma and Luella (Cover) St. John. Carol was a 1961 graduate of Clay High School. She retired in the late 1990's from Glasstech, Inc. Perrysburg after 30 years. Carol was proud to say that she was the first secretary of Glasstech.
One of Carol's most cherished moments was in 1997, after surviving a bone marrow transplant, she traveled to Europe with husband, Bill, and her sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Stanley Joehlin. While in Rome, Pope John Paul II blessed and shook hands with visitors in wheelchairs, including Carol. She was also able to visit the Basilica of St. Therese of Lisieux, France, her patron saint.
Carol, loved flowers and working in her gardens. Her true passion was her family and how precious each of them were to her.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Whitzel Sr.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Romee (Carol) St. John, Lester (Nancy) St. John, Chester (Sherry) St. John; sister and brother-in-law, Grace (Max) Chamberlain; sisters, Dolores (Stanley) Joehlin and Charlotte Bradfield.
Surviving is her husband, Kenneth Knitz; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Jane Temple; step-children, Carol (Michael) Smith, William Jr. (Brenda) Whitzel, James (Robin) Whitzel; grandchildren, Jessica and Joshua Temple; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Aiden, Audrey Temple, Alana Okonski; siblings, William (Joanne) St. John, Sandra (Lee) Miller; brother-in-law, Stanley (Sharon) Joehlin; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon, Ohio 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 am in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Road, Oregon, Ohio where the family will greet friends beginning at 10;00 am. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers expression of sympathy in Carol's memory are asked to consider St. Ignatius Church or American Cancer Society.
