Charles A. West, 88, of Curtice, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, September 24,2026, at Elmwood of Fremont. He was born on December 24, 1937, in GraingerCounty, Tennessee, to Hubert C. and Gladys (Perry) West.

Charles graduated from Everett High School and shortly thereafter married the love of his life, Edith G. Tipton, on December 18, 1957. Before their marriage, Edith's father, a Baptist minister, led both Charles and Edith to accept Christ as their Savior and be baptized.

Following high school, Charles volunteered for service in the United States Navy. During his military career, he served aboard several ships, including the aircraft carrier USS Independence. The mechanical skills he learned in the Navy would remain with him throughout his life.

After his military service, Charles and Edith lived in several locations and held various jobs before he began and retired from his career in communications with Norfolk Southern railroad.

After moving to the Toledo area, Charles and Edith became faithful members of Second Baptist Church, which later joined with Cass Road Baptist Church where held several roles in the church such as deacon.

Charles was known for his frugal nature, mechanical abilities, and wood working. Rather than replacing things simply because they were old, he preferred to repair and maintain them. He and Edith also enjoyed gardening and spent many years raising, preserving, and canning their own fruits and vegetables.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Edith; his parents; and his two brothers, Bill West and James Dalton.

Charles is survived by his sons, Scott (Angie) West and Dennis West; grandchildren, Casey (Stefan) Borden, Scott P. West, Amanda (Bo) Thomasson, Cody (Genesis) West, and Callum West; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
