Obituary

Charles H. "Bud" Felhaber, 70, of Northwood, OH passed away on April 29, 2003 in Bay Park Community Hospital. He was born April 10, 1933 in Detroit, MI to Wilfred and Lucy (Gilliland) Felhaber. He was a graduate of Olney High School and the University of Toledo where he was captain of the Men's Varsity Basketball team his senior year. He received a master's degree in Education from the University of Toledo and was an Army tank commander during the Korean War. Bud was a teacher for 21 years in the Oregon School System where he served as the varsity basketball coach for Clay High School. He also served as varsity basketball coach for both Bettsville and Port Clinton High Schools. During his 31 years of coaching his teams accumulated 315 wins. His teams won 3 league championships, 4 sectional championships and 1 district final. He was elected District Coach of the Year in 1975, District 7 All-Star Coach in 1978, 1976 & 1988 Ohio-Michigan All Star Coach and in 1992 was elected District 7 Retired Coach of the Year. Bud served as president of the District 7 Basketball Coaches Association, and also served as a board member of the Ohio State Basketball Coaches Association. He was founder of the District 7 All Star Game, served as director of the Ohio-Michigan All Star Games, and assistant director of the Ohio - West Virginia All Star Games and was recently inducted into the initial class of District 7 Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. Bud most recently served as assistant basketball coach for 14 years with the St. John's Jesuit Basketball team. He also was a member of First St. John Lutheran Church, the German (Swiss) Club, the Northwood VFW and owned and operated S & S Control Company. Surviving are his loving wife, Edith; son, Randy (Emily)Felhaber; daughter, Sue (Dan) Hipsher; grandchildren, Andy Hipsher, Bryan Hipsher and Nicholaus Felhaber: step grandchildren, Jacqueline and Julie Camilli; sister, Phyllis Frey. Also surviving are his in-laws, Mary (Don) Griffith, Jean Keaton, Lorin (Donna) Mohn and Jim (Pat) Mohn. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lucille Shaink and Joyce Felhaber. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-9 pm and Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 am in First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Street Toledo, Ohio. Interment will be in Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Bud Felhaber Basketball Camp Scholarship Foundation. Visitation: Visitation Times 5-9 Thursday / 2-9 Friday Coy Road Chapel
