Obituary

Charles John Jirinec, age 97, formerly of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2014, in Parkvue Nursing Care Facility in Sandusky, Ohio. Charles was born on June 10, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio to Charles and Amelia (Paetow) Jirinec. Charles graduated from Libbey High School, class of 1935. After high school, Charles was employed at Shultz Die Casting and American Propeller Corp. He attended Texas A & M for Army Air Force Training. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as an Aviation Cadet and was honorably discharged in 1945, after which he studied engineering at Toledo University. Charles was employed as a Designer in the Plant Engineering Department at Allied Chemical, retiring after 27 years. He went on to be a Field Supervisor with Sanborn, Steketee, Otis and Evans, retiring in 1980. 'œChuck' married the love of his life, Doris Jean Whaley. They were blessed with 67 wonderful years together, two children and many lifelong friendships. Throughout his life, Chuck was an avid gardener. He was known for his beautiful organic vegetable garden, his abundant apple trees and lovely roses. He also enjoyed Lake Erie fishing and duck hunting. Chuck Jirinec was a gentleman. He always did his best. He was a fine son, a great brother, a loving husband, a respected father, a sweet 'œBompa,' valued friend and good neighbor. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his son Jeffrey (Christi), daughter Janice (Michael) Mason, grandchildren Shelly Sorrentino, Jennifer (John) Robinson, Nathan (Stacey) Jirinec, Mike (Leah) Mason II, Dan (Minda) Mason, Matthew (Lisa) Mason, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Erma Jirinec and niece Sally (Dave) Bennett. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris (Whaley) Jirinec, brother Arthur Jirinec and niece Linda (Jirinec) Fink. The family will greet friends and relatives Saturday, September 20, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
