Charles H. "Bud" Lagger
Nov. 9, 1937 – Nov. 6, 2009
Charles "Bud" Lagger began his eternal life with God on Friday, November 6, 2009. He was born in Toledo to Charles and Doris Lagger and was one of six children. He graduated from Macomber in 1955 and married the love of his life, Lillian, in 1958. He started at Standard Ohio of Ohio in 1966 and retired from BP in 1999.
A proud resident of Oregon, Bud's family, church, friends, and community involvement were his priorities. His many volunteer activities includes St. Charles Hospital for 35 years, Friends of Pearson Park, Oregonian Club in various club projects including co-chair of the Bird Cage Ball (scholarship fund raiser), Jamie Farr Golf Classic, German-American Festival and Toledo Swiss Societies (part of the Oak Shade grounds crew), Oregon annual holiday food basket program, Sohio Credit Union's Credit Committee. He was the driver of the "green pickle" bus for St. Mark Lutheran Church for Girl Scout travels, bible school, and community outreach programs. As a life-long member of St. Mark, he was involved with the property board, Interfaith Hospitality, coach of the basketball and dart-ball teams, grounds crew, usher, Men's Bible Breakfast group, became the "sign guy" in retirement, and helped in any other events that happened at church. He enjoyed planting trees with Starr Elementary students on the grounds of Pearson Park North property donated by BP Refinery.
He was the recipient of both the Frederic F. Hansen Humanitarian Award and the Book of Golden Deeds Award for the Exchange Club of Great Maumee Bay for outstanding community service.
He loved sports and followed all Clay High School teams, Ohio State University and Detroit Tigers. He also loved to travel: Germany, Scotland, England, and Alaska were among his favorites.
He will be greatly missed by wife, Lillian; daughters, Debra (Kathy Bibler) Lagger and Karen (Gene) Wright; grandchildren Jean Godfrey, Ian Wright, Hannah and Kalliyan Lagger; sister Evelyn (Jerry) Fralick; brothers James (Joanne), Kenneth (Carol) and Gerald (Laura). He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jennifer Jo; goddaughter, Sharon Bower and sister, Clara Feyes Dusseau.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 9th from 2-8 p.m. at the Eggleston-Meinert-Palvey Funeral Home at Coy and Starr Ave. in Oregon. A celebration of Bud's life will be held at St. Mark, Woodville and Elmore, Toledo, Ohio on Tuesday November 10th at 11:30 a.m. with luncheon to follow.
