Obituary

Charles E. West Jr., 80 of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Friday at St. Charles-Mercy Hospital surrounded by his family. Charlie was born in Findlay on March 1, 1922 to Charles Sr. and Mabel (Page) West. He was a Navy Veteran serving his country during WW II on the USS Bunkerhill. Charlie also was the recipitant of the Purple Heart Medal. He graduated from Ball State receiving his degree in education. Charlie taught Industrial Art and Drafting for Clay High School for 30 years retiring in 1978. He earned his masters degree from University of Toledo, taking night courses. When he was off for summer vacation Charlie took his family camping, going to different states each summer covering 45 states, even North to Alaska. Charlie was also known for his woodworking skills making kitchen cabinets,and any projects that needed to be done. In his younger years while boys where playing ball you would find Charlie working with wood. Once moving to Oregon area he purchased land on Stadium Road, cleared it and built his home where he and his family lived for over 46 years. Charlie was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, he also was a past member of the Masonic Lodge. He and his wife where members of the AirStream Club, where he was past president. Charlie and his wife spent many winters in Florida at Travelers West with their airstream group. Surviving are his daughters, Pat Mariea, Linda and Linda Kerrigan, brother, Jack and Mary West, Dick West; 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara West, and daughter, Kathy Rahla. Visitation will be held on Sunday 2-9 pm at the Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road. Funeral services will be held Monday at Christ United Methodist Church, 5757 Starr Ext., Oregon, Ohio at 11:00 am and where the family will greet friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Benton Ridge Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Charlies memory are asked to consider Christ United Methodist Church. Visitation: Visitation Times
