Chester F. Hicks, 94, of Millbury, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo on April 19, 1923, to Chester and Veral (Corning) Hicks. As a young man, he was an outstanding newspaper boy for The Toledo News-Bee. Chester was a graduate of Libbey and a member of the Toledo Junior Chamber of Commerce. He joined the Army Air Corp during WWII, where he became a flight instructor and flew B-25 and C-46 aircraft. Chester completed pilot training in Ballinger, Texas, and graduated as a pilot of the Army Air Forces, Frederick, Oklahoma. Following his discharge as 2nd Lieutenant in 1945, he flew for Capital Airlines. He also owned and operated the Home Service Center and APACS in Perrysburg. Chester was a 32 degree mason with the Phoenix Lodge, member of Zenobia Lancers and past hospital chairman for the Zenobia Temple.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years Norma; children, Naomi (Al) Cullenen, Susan (Sam) Botek, Brenda (Troy) Mauder, Julia (Rick) Akenberger, Lou Anna (John) Ervin, Adrienne (Brian) Wodrich, Lisa (Mick) Delas, Pam (Bill) Schooler, Jack Damron, Jay (Ila) Hicks and Tim (Marcia) Hicks; 27 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maryjane Roudebush and grandchild, Andrea Cullenen.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) on Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
