Clara and Albert lived in Northwood, OH for most of their lives and were members of First St. John Lutheran Church (Toledo, OH). After retirement, they lived part time in Colony Cove in Ellenton, FL. Clara loved her family. For the past 25 years, those who were able would spend a week together each summer in the mountains or at the beach. The group grew to include as many as 25 sharing one house. She and Albert loved to travel. The children fondly remember many driving vacations "out West" crowded into a station wagon and cooking breakfast over a Coleman stove. Clara's last big trips were to Italy when she was 88 and the Canadian Rockies when she was 89.
Clara worked as the Food Service Director for the Northwood schools for many years. She served as advisor for the Cheerful Stitchers 4-H club for 25 years. She was active in First St. John Lutheran Church as a member of both Miriam and Mary Martha Circles, and was President of the Women of the Church. In Florida, she coordinated and delivered Meals on Wheels and supervised the lending library at Colony Cove. She enjoyed playing golf, line dancing, making quilts, reading, playing bridge, and solving crosswords and jigsaw puzzles.
