Clarence R. Egert, 81, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at the Perrysburg
Rehabilitation and Care Center in Perrysburg , Ohio. Born September 29, 1929, in
Perrysburg , Ohio to George S. and Kathryn (Fremion) Egert. He graduated from Harris- Elmore High School in 1947 and enlisted in the Marines. He attended Naval Prep School in Bainbridge , MD , and was accepted into the Naval Academy in Annapolis , MD. Married Nancy (Zolman) Egert on November 24, 1950 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore, OH .
Clarence graduated from Toledo University in 1953 with a B.S. in education and in 1956, with a masters in education from Toledo University . In 1953, he returned to his high school alma mater to teach mathematics. In 1963, he left Harris-Elmore High School to teach at Ottawa Hills High School in Toledo , OH , where he coached track and was chairman of the math department at one time. He served on the Harris-Elmore High
School Board of Education from 1964-1967. Retired from Ottawa Hills High School in
1982, but remained active in teaching part-time at UT Comm. Tech and Owens
Community College until 1996.
He served on the Elmore Village Council for 12 years from 1992-2005, where he was passionate about improving village parks, maintenance of alleys, streets and sidewalks.
He also worked many summers for The Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a
member of the Elmore Community for 55 years and moved to Millbury in 2005. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore. His main hobby was woodworking.
Clarence and Nancy were long time members of the Toledo Craftsman's Guild, where
they traveled many weekends to craft shows to showcase Clarence's woodworking
projects. Throughout their marriage, he and Nancy explored the genealogy of both of their families by traveling throughout Europe and the United States . Clarence also enjoyed yard work, home improvement projects, playing cards, traveling to attend events
of grandchildren and more recently, billiards.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy; sons, Dana (Dodie) of Houston,
TX, Dean (Debbie) of Charlotte, NC, Doug of Genoa, OH, and David (Kay) of Bellaire,
MI; daughter, DeLee (Todd) Beadle of Michigan; sister, Joyce (Richard) Kruse of Pemberville, OH; brother, Donald of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Ben, Brett, Brian, Beau (Allison), Brittany, Betsy, Alex, Jarrad (Wendy), Keith, Tracy (Nick), Adam, Eric, and Amanda; step-grandson, Brian Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Blane, Ian, Briann, Zain, Grace, Lane, and many loving nephews, nieces and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Kathryn; brothers, George J. and Frey Daniel.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, 1111 Woodville Road, Millbury , Ohio, on Saturday, from 2-4 & 6-9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday at 2pm in Trinity Lutheran Church 412 Fremont St. Elmore, Ohio where the family will greet visitors after 1 p.m. Interment to will take place in Harris-Elmore Cemetery with a bereavement dinner following in the Church Educational Building .
The family would like to thank Perrysburg Rehabilitation and Care Center for their loving care of Clarence, the last two and a half months.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Northwest Ohio or Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore.
