Obituary

Cody John Van Hersett, 16, of Oregon, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 12, 2012 due to injuries from an auto accident. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 9, 1995 to John G. and Michelle M. (Schenkel) Van Hersett Jr. Cody was a sophomore at Clay High School. He had attended Starr and Fassett schools, and pre-school at All Saints in Rossford. Cody started playing hockey at the age of 9 and was currently a member of the Varsity Hockey team as #23, where he excelled as a key player for the team. He was noted by a commentator as a 'œpest in the crease,' because of his size and agility. He played on the Clay JV soccer team and had been moved to the varsity team, playing just one game and scoring a goal. Cody was looking forward to the next soccer season. He loved going to Wamplers Lake during the summer with his family and friends for skiing, wake boarding, tubing and boating. During the winter he enjoyed snowmobiling and loved putting the miles on the snowmobile. Cody enjoyed doing anything that involved the outdoors, especially playing pond hockey. Above all, he loved being with his family, brothers and friends. Cody was a great big brother and was a mentor to his brothers. They both wanted to be just like him. Cody'™s dream was to be a pilot, and one day owning and fixing his own plane. Surviving are his parents, John and Michelle; little brothers, Jarod and Ethan; grandparents, John and Susan Van Hersett, Dave and Gail Durczynski and Jeff Schenkel; great grandmothers, Evelyn Krieger and Joan Knighten; aunts and uncles, Connie (Jim) Mueller, Valerie (Scott) Killinger, Nicole (Jacob) Alexander, Julie (David) Schivelbein and Jeff (Brandy) Schenkel; cousins, Nicholas, Scott, Sam, Lacey, Brianna, Isabella, Kacy, Jacob, Nathan, Abby, Jeffy, Bree and Kaylee, and many, many loving friends.
