Cora Catherine Davis Buehrer, 99, of Toledo, left her home to be with her husband and the Lord on Friday, December 4, 2003, in The Toledo Hospital just one week short of her 100th birthday. The matriarch of the Davis family, Cora was born in East Toledo on December 11, 1903 to George W. and Wilhelmina (Schmidlin) Davis. She attended Grant School, Waite High School, Davis Business College and took night classes at the University of Toledo, majoring in accounting. In 1932 she married Myron Buehrer and they had 64 years of togetherness. Cora was a long time member and Sunday School teacher at Memorial United Church of Christ, a Girl Scout Leader, member of the Old Orchard School Mothers Club, two bridge clubs and a garden club. During World War II she served as a Red Cross volunteer making bandages for wounded soldiers. She and her husband were the owners of the Boice Crane Company. Her career also included employment in the accounting department of The Anderson's and during her early years as secretary for a local department store manager.
Surviving are her daughter, Roberta (Kenneth) Knapp of Clancy, Montana; sister-in-law, Irene (Harold) Davis of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Cathy (Bruce) Wilson of Devils Lake MI, Kelly(Stephen) Givens of Ft. Campbell, KY, Carol Riedel of Wilmington, OH, Jeffrey and Rachel Knapp of Clancy, Montana; great-grandchildren, Cristine and Kayla Wilson, Zachary and Corey Givens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; daughter, Barbara and her husband, Frank Riedel; brothers, John, Eric, Arthur, Edward, Charles and Harold Davis; sisters, Ida Lake, Lillian Zunk, Bertha Huss, Myrtle Miller, Alma Smith and Eleanor Fairchild.
Friends may call in the Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road at Starr Avenue, where visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 8, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial United Church of Christ, Starr Avenue at Plymouth Street. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Cora's memory may be made to Memorial United Church of Christ.
