Obituary

Cornelia Holway (Harpster) Palmer, age 103, of Rossford, Ohio, formerly of East Toledo, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. Cornelia was born Sunday, July 3, 1904, to D. Harry and Bertha (Anderson) Harpster. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great- great-grandmother and aunt, Cornelia graduated from Morrison R. Waite High School in 1922. She attended the University of Toledo for one year and transferred to Ohio University from where she graduated in 1926 with a bachelor of science in French and English. In 1927, Cornelia married A. William Palmer. She taught fourth grade at East Side Central Elementary School for four years and then was a homemaker for the next twenty years. Becoming a widow in 1950, Cornelia went to work at Riverside Hospital as an admitting and emergency room clerk. In 1963, she and her son-in-law, Robert E. Yenrick, opened Robert's Frame Shop on Starr Avenue in East Toledo. When the business moved to Navarre Avenue in Oregon, Ohio, in 1972, Cornelia continued to serve customers where she was an expert at mounting needlework. When the family business closed in 1992, she retired at age 89. Throughout her years, Cornelia dedicated her life unselfishly to her family. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking, cleaning, needlework, reading and tending to her rose garden. Later in life, Cornelia enjoyed living with her granddaughter, Deb, and good friend, Joanne, and taking care of their many pets. Cornelia held memberships in the Ohio University Alumni Association, the Morrison R. Waite High School Alumni Association, the East Toledo Family Center, the East Toledo Historical Society and the Riverside Hospital Pastimers Association. An 82-year member of Sigma Sigma Sigma, Cornelia was recognized by the national organization in 1981 as the Phi Alumna Recognition Award Winner and in 2000 with a seventy-five year member recognition certificate. In addition to her husband and parents, Cornelia was preceded in death by her brother, Donald H. Harpster and her sister, Margaret H. Fischer. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jane E. (Robert) Yenrick; grandchildren Deborah, Robert W. (Dianna), David (Carolyn), Timothy (Linda) and Connie; great-grandchildren, Robert W. (Holly), Chad (Theresa), Mathew, Christopher, Katherine, William, Leigh and Anne; great,-great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Palmer, Olivia, Skylar and Sydah, and close family friend Joanne Loolen. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Betty Harpster and many nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, 440 South Coy Road, Oregon, Ohio, on Friday, November 16, 2007, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted by Father Joseph R. Steinbauer in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2007, with interment following in Calvary Cemetery.
