Obituary

Daniel (Danny) Anderson, 85, Oregon, Ohio passed away September 28, 2008 in his home.  He was born to Albert and Anna (Petersen) Anderson in Jerusalem Township, Curtice, Ohio on July 21, 1923. Dan graduated from Clay High School in 1941. At the onset of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp. After serving two years with the Air Corp, Danny was transferred to the Army Infantry. He then fought with the 8th Infantry Division through Central Germany. Danny was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and the European Ribbon with two Battle Stars. Upon returning from the war he married Elizabeth (Libby) Moritz. Danny was an active life long member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Curtice, Ohio where he was a past president and sang in the church choir for over 60 years. He was a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 131 for twenty years. Danny sang in the Velvetone Choraliers for 21 years. He was employed by Sohio (BP) Oil Refinery where he worked as an electrician for 41 years. Danny was a life member of Christ Dunberger American Legion Post 537 and VFW Post 9816. He was an officer in Dunberger Post for ten years as a trustee, adjutant, and Post Commander. He was chosen as Lucas County Council Legionnaire of the Year in 1996.  Danny managed several area mens softball teams for 30 years. He was awarded the Oregon Kiwanis "Fredric E. Hansen" Humanitarian Award in 1998.  Danny was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Danny and Libby were very active in attending numerous events for their children and grandchildren and was the recipient of the Clay Athletic Super Booster Award. Our loving father instilled in his family love of God, love of our country and love of family.  Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth "Libby"; daughters, Kristine (John) Nikoncyk and Patrice (Clint) Schwierking; son, Timothy (Cindy) Anderson; 10 grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Rettig, Chad (Heather) Nikoncyk, Sean Nikoncyk, Nathan Nikoncyk, Jamie (Mike) Katschke, Jodie (Ben) Mason, Stacy Schwierking, Lyndse Anderson, Erica Anderson and Brad Anderson; 5 great grandchildren, Lauren, Kirsten, Mikaeli, Kelsie, Lukas and baby due in April.; sister, Alberta (Larry) Johnson and many nieces and nephews. Danny was preceded in death by his parents.   Visitation will be held at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Wednesday from 4-8 pm and Thursday from 2-9 p.m. with Christ Dunberger Post Services at 7:30 p.m.  Funeral services will be conducted at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, 20 S. Yondota Road, Curtice, Ohio on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. and where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.  Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Dannys memory are asked to consider St. Luke Lutheran Church. Visitation: Wednesday, 4-8 p.m. Thursday, 2-8 p.m. Friday, Noon-1:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church Services: Friday, 1:00 p.m.
