Daniel is a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was a CSX locomotive engineer for 33 years before retiring. Dan enjoyed watching hockey, cooking, collecting American Indian memorabilia and hot fudge sundaes. Dan is survived by his mother, Shirley Douge; sister, Cynthia (Rick Sr.) Lauch; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Donald and Alta Smith and Kenneth and Viola Douge. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel 440 S. Coy Rd., on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be private. Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Daniel'™s name are asked to consider the Wounded Warrior Project at P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. When I'™m Gone When I come to the end of my journey and I travel my last weary mile, just forget if you can, that I ever frowned and remember only the smile. Forget unkind words I have spoken; Remember some good I have done. Forget that I ever had a heartache And remember I'™ve had loads of fun. Forget that I have stumbled and blundered and sometimes fell by the way. Remember I have fought some hard battles and won, ere the close of the day. Then forget to grieve for my going, I would not have you sad for a day, But in summer just gather some flowers And remember the place where I lay, And come in the shade of evening When the sun paints the sky in the west, Stand for a moment beside me and remember only my best.
