David A. Ludwig, 74, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Monday, August 9, 2021 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. David was born in Toledo, Ohio December 3, 1946 to Frank and Ruth (Huss) Ludwig. He proudly served in the United States Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam War. On August 3, 1968, he married the love of his life, Diane Dale. For 32 years, David worked with Ohio Bell and AT&T as a communications technician. Before retiring in 2001, he served as president of Communication Workers of America Local 4319. In retirement, David worked as a toll collector with the Ohio Turnpike in Stony Ridge, Ohio. David enjoyed island life; listening to Kenny Chesney & Jimmy Buffett and traveling with his wife on 28 Caribbean cruises. His hobbies included: tinkering in his garage, watching college football, and was an avid reader and collector of Clive Cussler novels.
David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Diane; "ultimate girl dad" to Kimberly (Fred) Cortez, Kelly (Mike) Gill, and Kary (Bill) Whearty; grandchildren, Miranda (Tyler) Sibbersen, Austin (Taylor) Cortez, Nicholas (Keely) Cortez, Alexander Cortez, Taylor Gill (Eriq), Brandon Gill, Tyler Whearty, Kendall Whearty, and Kerrigan Whearty; great-granddaughter, Ava Sibbersen; and brother, Ted (Lori) Ludwig. Preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ruth along with his brother, Keith Ludwig.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 12:00 pm until memorial service at 2:00 pm. Private burial: Clay Township Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Toledo Humane Society as a tribute to his loving dog, Coco.
