David O. Martin, 86, of Northwood, Ohio passed away Friday, November 2, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 9, 1926 to Clyde and Anna Kathryn (Gustavus) Martin. David was a 1945 graduate of Waite High School, and played on the 1943 Waite High School State Championship Football Team. He was a very proud U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Marsh where he was a plumber and pipe fitter. After his military service, David worked for New York Central Railroad and retired from Jeep in 1992 as a diesel mechanic. His memberships included: VFW Post #2510, American Legion Post #252 in Seminole, Florida, Paragon Lodge #788, 32nd Degree Mason, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. A proud moment in David'™s life was watching his grandson Trent play on the St. Francis High School State Championship Hockey Team. David loved dancing, basketball, boxing, fishing, hockey, and watching racing; especially the sprint cars on the dirt track at Eldora Speedway. He loved spending time in his garage where he could work on cars, especially, Ford Mustangs.
Surviving are his daughter, Lori Streichert (Frank Whitmer); beloved grandson, Trent Streichert (Natalie Weeks); 3 nieces, 4 nephews; best friend, Elsie, and dog Cali who brought him much comfort. David was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clyde 'œBud' Martin, and sister, Gene Rosalind Hagman.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road on Sunday, November 4th from 2-9 p.m with Masonic Lodge services at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, November 5th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Scott Union Cemetery, Huron, Ohio. Expressions of sympathy in David'™s memory may be directed to St. Jude'™s Children'™s Hospital or Shriner'™s Hospital for Children.
