Delbert A. Schimming, 78, of Genoa, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at The Toledo Hospital.
He was born in Curtice, Ohio on October 2, 1932 to Arnold and Ethel (King) Schimming. Delbert was a graduate of the former DeVilbiss High School where he was a linebacker and offensive back on the football team and was a member of the track team. He attended Toledo University before enlisting in the US Navy where he served for four yeas. Delbert was employed with E.W. Bliss, Doehler-Jarvis, and Scholz Homes. Most recently, he was employed with Toledo Building Services as a janitor at Davis- Besse Nuclear Power Station, retiring in 2002. Delbert was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6067, Green Springs. His hobbies included playing softball for St. Paul Lutheran Church and bowling up to four times per week. His favorite foods included Ballreich potato chips, hamburgers, black licorice. Delbert will be remembered for his kind and gentle ways, always lending a hand to friends and family in need.
Delbert is survived by his step-mother, Margaret Schimming; siblings, Butch Schimming, Larry (Christi) Schimming, Sue (Tom) Overmeier, and Mark (Bobbie) Kerchman. Delbert is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Sandra Tong.
Friends may call at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road on Monday, July 25th from 2:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio.
