Obituary

Dennie M. Sehlmeyer, 82, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on March 18, 2025 at Genoa Retirement Village. He was born in Troy, Ohio on July 28, 1942 to August and Lourena (Brockroff) Sehlmeyer. Dennie graduated from Waite High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. On December 2, 1978 he married Janet (Vargo). Dennie worked for the Toledo Police Department for over 30 years, retiring as Sergeant. During his time with the Police Department, he was one of the founding members of the Mounted Patrol with his horse being Bandelero. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, boating giving his grandsons tours of the police department and the cruisers and traveling with his family to the Pinery in Canada. Dennie was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He absolutely loved his time with his grandchildren, especially his once-a-year canoeing trips to Mohican with his grandsons. What he cherished most was his family and grandchildren.

Dennie is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet; children, Bill (Carla) Scott, Diana (David) Schroeder, Denise Yanez; grandchildren, Bill (Samantha) Scott, Christie (James) Gregg, Joseph (Katie) Materni, Max Schroeder, Mason Schroeder, Josh (Sarah) Sacko, Jami Csendes; great-grandchildren, Rayland, Stella, Carmella, Callie, Harper, Kaiden, Sebastian, Tanner and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennie Jr.; granddaughter, Casey Elizabeth, great-granddaughter, Lila; brother, John Graham; and sisters, Arlene Cupp, Lois Marriman, Kathy Sherwood, and Carol Butte.

The family will greet friends at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., Oregon, Ohio 43616 on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Genoa Retirement Village for the compassionate care they provided to their loved one. Expressions of sympathy in Dennie's name may be directed to, The American Cancer Society.
