Dennis F. Strahl, 81, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Orchard Villa following a brief illness. Dennis was born to Otto and Adeline (Artis) Strahl in Monroe County, Indiana, on July 7, 1930; he was the seventh of ten children. He graduated from Columbus High School in Columbus, Indiana where he received a certificate in auto mechanics. Following high school, he served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, Dennis relocated to Toledo and graduated from Kurtz Meat Cutting School. He was employed by Libbey-Owens-Ford for 30 years, retiring in 1984. Dennis also owned and operated a full service Sunoco Station in Oregon during the 1960s, and he continued to cut meat well into retirement. He enjoyed working and had many vocational interests throughout the years. Dennis met Glenda Lee Cousino in 1952; they married in 1953 and had 56 happy years until she passed away in 2009. Together they enjoyed raising their children, camping, traveling and spending winters in Florida. Dennis maintained his early interest in cars and through the years honed his mechanics skills, using them to help family and friends. Other interests included working in his yard and barn, collecting knives, buying and selling cars, fishing and boating, trips to the casino, and above all, spending time with his family and close friends. Dennis attended Hope Community Church of the Nazarene.
Dennis will be sadly missed by his children, Denna Gerrard (Larry Vasko), Scott (Lynne) Strahl, Marae Kamine, Craig (Tammy) Strahl, and Ronda Lafferty; grandchildren, Nathan and Joel Gerrard, Steven, Lynsey, Garret and Mitchel Kamine, Nicholas Strahl, Keegan Lafferty, and Kyle and Erik Vasko; siblings, Dale (Barb) Strahl, Doyle (Marilyn) Strahl, James Strahl, Ransom (Joan) Strahl, Louise (Charles) Gearhardt, and Dorothy (Bruce) Hatcher, and long-time friend Dr. Joses Yuan, along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members, and his dog Rex. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters Irene Bearry, Virginia Glasgow, and Bernice Ketcham.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, from 1:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Interment will follow at North Oregon Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hope Community Church of the Nazarene or the American Diabetes Association.
