Obituary

Diane L. Masserant, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, 60, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Diane was born in Oregon, Ohio on July 27, 1956 to Clair and Lois (Carothers) Huss. In 1975, Diane graduated from Clay High School where she was a majorette with her sister, Debbie. On March 13, 1979, Diane met her husband Terry and married March 13, 1982. As an 18th wedding anniversary gift to each other, Terry and Diane purchased a 100 acre farm. Masserant's Anniversary Acres was shared with their sons, Justin and Greyson; dogs, Kayleigh and Winnie; a horse, lamb, goat, six steers; and way too many cats. For over 25 years, Diane worked in the dental field for various dentists in the Toledo area. In 2005, Diane fulfilled her lifelong dream of owning an ice cream parlor. She designed and built Eagle's Nest Sweet Retreat in Oregon, Ohio. Diane operated the business with the assistance of her son Greyson managing the business along with husband Terry and son Justin assisting with maintenance and recently with her sister Debbie. Eagle's Nest was a quality establishment blessed with many great employees and was voted one of the top fifty establishments in Lucas County with zero health code violations. Operating the restaurant enabled Diane to establish close relationships with friends from throughout the world including birders, vacationers to Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon Recreation Fields, and great students at Clay High School. Diane was many things: loving, generous, protective, strong- willed, hard-working, smart and feisty. She deeply loved her husband, sons, family, farm, friends, critters, along with her community and country. Diane is survived by her husband of 34 years, Terry; sons, Justin and Greyson; father, Clair Huss and his friend Maria; brother, Dan (Terri) Huss; sisters, Debbie (Scott) Emmett, Darla (Chris) Clark, and Delinda (Rich) Baker; sister-in-law, Laura (Ron) Root; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Lois Huss and mother-in-law, Barbara Masserant. Private funeral services were held for Diane's family. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice. Diane's family wishes to thank her many loyal customers and friends for their support over the past 11 years. A special thanks to the paramedics of Oregon Fire & Rescue along with the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mercy St. Vincent Heart & Vascular Care Center and the University of Toledo Medical Center Cardiovascular Unit for the wonderful care over the past weeks. Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. www.egglestonmeinert.com
