IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Domenic
Turco
December 12, 1926 – April 17, 2024
Domenic Turco, of Northwood, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024, at the age of 97. Nick was born in Gibsonburg, Ohio to Biago and Candita Turco on December 12, 1926. He leaves behind six children, Karen (John) Pollock, Kevin (Nanette) Turco, Joan (Thomas) Coates, Wendy (Chris) Matlack, Laurie (Jim) Deen, and Keith (Patti) Turco, 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nick was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, with whom he shared 71 years until her passing in 2020. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, one sister, and granddaughter, Emily Matlack.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he led a life of service, beginning with the service of his country when he enlisted as a junior in high school. He spent his time in the service as a member of the US Navy during WWII, aboard the USS Pasadena. He earned an honorary diploma from Gibsonburg High School in 2002.
For 38 years, Nick was a dedicated employee at Libbey Owens Ford. He always respected hard work and would frequently remind his kids and grandkids to "always do a little more than your boss expects of you."
Nick was a dedicated craftsman, finding joy in his woodworking shop. His skilled hands crafted countless treasures, including tables, grandfather clocks, stools, bluebird houses, cutting boards and spoons, and was known for bringing new life to old or damaged items. In his later years, he discovered a passion for creating pocket crosses, sharing his faith and kindness with all whom he encountered.
Nick spent Saturdays in the fall watching his beloved Buckeyes, sharing a special "one ring phone call" whenever Ohio State scored. In his earlier days, he enjoyed golfing with his brothers and friends, and was a member of Chippewa Golf Course.
For nearly seven decades, Nick was a devoted member of St. Jerome Church in Walbridge, where much of his woodworking masterpieces can be found. He was known for his close relationships with his neighbors and friends, sharing in conversation, enjoying a beer or pop outside his shop. Friends, family, and his grandkids will always remember that they couldn't leave his home without a treat of some kind: whether it be a handful of crosses, a bit of chocolate, a banana, or a wooden spoon.
A celebration of Nick's life will be held Monday, April 22, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Rd., Millbury, Ohio, 43447. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner St., Walbridge, Ohio 43465 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Flag City Honor Flight, in honor of Nick's military service and his own experience as part of the Honor Flight, P.O. Box 885, Findlay, Ohio 45839.
The family would like to express gratitude to Northwest Ohio Primary Care Physicians, Ashanti Hospice, and Otterbein Senior Life for their special care for Nick.
Domenic's departure leaves a void in our lives, but his spirit will live on in the memories we hold. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Charlotte, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
