Obituary

Donald L. & Thais E. Ghiata of Oregon, Ohio, who have done almost everything together in their nearly 75 years of marriage, continued with this tradition as they transitioned from this life to the next through the gates of Heaven. Donald, 94, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022. He was born in Ferndale, Michigan on March 1, 1927 to Donald & Gunda (Anderson) Ghiata. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. And on April 5, 1947 he married the love of his life, Thais Kamiske. Thais, 93, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio. She was born in Alpena, Michigan on August 22, 1928 to William & Marian (Makey) Kamiske. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1946. Their married life began in the small farming community of Spruce, Michigan. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Alpena, Michigan, followed by residences in Wyandotte & Trenton, Michigan. Eventually, they bought a home in Oregon, Ohio, where they continued to raise their small family, and where they remained until the Lord called them home to Glory. Donald worked hard & studied hard to earn the title of Captain, sailing the Great Lakes on cement freighters. While Donald was Captain on the freighters, Thais was Captain of their home. Working together for their small family, they built a solid foundation of unconditional love & strong faith. Both Donald & Thais had a deep & strong faith in Jesus. Because of their faith & trust in the Lord, with confidence we can say they're each now enjoying the beauty of Heaven together. Don and Thais are survived by their children, Donald (Kathy) Ghiata and Lori (Joe) Ghiata-Bowser. And by their grandchildren, Dan (Susan) Bowser, Shannon (Granseur) Dick, Shelby (Travis) Tracy, Jennelle (Brian) McDonald, and Joshua (Shannon) Ghiata. And great-grandchildren, Audrey, Samuel, Anderson, Peyton, Owen and Eli. Also surviving are Don's brothers & sisters-in-law, Norman (Hilda) Ghiata, and Philip (Joyce) Ghiata. Don and Thais were preceded in death by their parents; their daughter, Valerie Ghiata; their great granddaughter, Lindsey Bowser; & Don's brother, Raymond Ghiata. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 5-8 pm at Eggleston, Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, Ohio.
