Donald E. Higley, 89, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Don was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 30, 1926 to Floyd and Clara (Sass) Higley. He graduated from Waite High School in 1944, and married his high school sweetheart, Doris Mollett on November 22, 1947. Don was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Toledo University. Don was employed with Chrysler Corporation as an engineer for over 35 years, retiring in 1988. His hobbies included: woodworking, photography, traveling, and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes. Don was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed bowling, and golfing in Myrtle Beach. Don was a longtime member of First St. John Lutheran Church. Don is survived by his daughter, Connie (William) Wiener; daughter-in-law, Pamela Holt-Higley, of North Carolina; grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Wiener, Kara (Grady) Goa, and Amanda (Ken) Keske; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jacob, Grady Joe, Emerson, Cooper, Gunnar, and Kolton; brother-in-law, Joe Grady; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vivian (Theodore) Sharlow; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, loving family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; son, Robert; and sister, Joyce Grady. Friends may call at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:00 am in First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Road, Toledo, where the family will greet friends beginning at 9:00 am. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to First St. John Lutheran Church or Lutheran Home at Toledo. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Lutheran Home at Toledo and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the care and compassion given to Don.
