Obituary

Donald Melms Sr., 91, of Walbridge passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, in the Hospice of Northwest Ohio inpatient unit. Mr. Melms was born in Toledo on December 29, 1917, to John and Nina (Lehman) Melms. Don graduated from Waite High School in 1935 and went to work for the News Bee Paper Company. He then went to the Champion Spark Plug Company until he was drafted into the Army where he served in Germany during World War II. After his discharge he returned to Champion where he would work for 40 years before his retirement in 1982. After retirement he and his wife, Alice made many trips to visit their friends in Georgia and Florida. They thought about moving south but just couldn't leave the Eastside of Toledo. Surviving are his son, Donald (Penny) Melms Jr.; grandsons, Greg (Janet) and Michael (Jessica) Melms; great-grand-children, Chloe, Gabrielle, Ava and Nicholas Melms. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; daughter, Judy Ann Steusloff; sister, Dorothy Deacon and brother, Paul. Private family services were held at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury with interment at Lake Township Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider, Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to thank the great nursing staff and aids at Oakleaf Village, especially Chris. We would also like to thank the nurses at Hospice for their loving care and compassion. Services: Friday, 1:00 PM
